Volunteering Process

Start Serving and Growing Today

At the heart of Our Team, Our Family are the volunteers. We have some great opportunities to jump in and make a big difference to “Serve Here, Grow Anywhere.”

Community members from all walks of life come together in service to others to tackle serious challenges that threaten life, property, and the environment.

Application

Submit your membership inquiry on this website to have our Recruitment Retention Coordinator (RRC) contact you within 24 hours to answer any questions you may have and get you an application if you are ready for one.

Once you have completed the application, the RRC will review it and conduct background checks for criminal and driving history, your social media, and any references you may have.

Interview

The RRC will schedule an interview with a two-member interview team that typically lasts 30-45 minutes.

Approval

The Membership Board will approve/disapprove the candidate's membership application, relay results by phone and email, and be advised of the next steps.

New members will receive:

  • Station key fob
  • West Point VFD T-shirt
  • Station tour
  • EMS cot operational training
  • Apparatus and equipment familiarization
  • New Member Handbook
  • IamResponding login credentials
  • Assignment to Events Committee
* Candidates can schedule a ride-along (s) during the recruitment phase.

Observer

Upon acceptance, the new member will move into the "Observer" phase. Here, they can ride on calls as an observer while they have 30 days to complete some required online training.

Recruit

In the recruit phase, the new member goes through orientation so that they can be safe and helpful on calls. They receive their "Recruit Task Book" also called a "Red Book" which helps them work through specific tasks that enable them to become a valuable member when responding to calls. The tasks are broken into four sections, each requiring more capability: Station Life, EMS, Fire, and Rescue.
