Preventing House Fires in the Winter

Did you know that home fires occur more in winter than in any other season?

Some alarms may use your home’s electrical system and that could stop working during a power outage. Make sure that your smoke alarm has a back-up battery and replace the battery at least once a year.

Three out of five home fire deaths result from fires in properties without working smoke alarms. More than one-third, or 38% of home fire deaths result from fires in which no smoke alarms were present. The risk of dying in a home fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke alarms.
